architecture

My Mom's talents as an Interior Designer rubbed off on me along with my dad's carpentry skills.  Like most people, when i live in a space i need it to be my own.  So many ideas...so little time.  😁

The front of my house consists of a concrete step and thats it.  It screams to have a porch that not only has curb appeal but is in line with the esthetic of the rest of the house.  I started sketching out ideas and then moved to CAD.  My whole house is now in the computer allowing me to come up with even more ideas quickly but also accurately since I measured everything.  I haven't started construction yet but I look forward to posting an AFTER picture one day soon.

One of the biggest reasons, besides the Mid-Century style, for buying my house was the size of the basement.  When touring it for the first time I couldn't believe the size of the windows down there, not to mention that it is a full basement.  The previous owner tried to make it into a livable space but it wasn't finished by any means.  I demoed the little that was there and opened up the space.  I installed lights, outlets, walls and painted the ceiling.  It's not finished yet but it's well on its way.

My first house was my grandparent's home and once I moved in I started changing it.  They never really made their house a reflection of them.  It was a blank slate allowing me to express myself creatively. One of the biggest projects was the backyard.  I have always loved Japanese gardens and decided to create one for myself.  I designed and built fences, plant beds, a bench, gates, and a rock pond.  It was my sanctuary away from all the hustle and bustle.

This shed started off as a play fort for my daughters but has now turned into the centerpiece for a relaxing outdoor space.  We now use it for eating together, hosting parties, or soaking up some rays listening to the water trickle from the pond fountain.
