TMNT

partnering with Playmates toys to develop Teenage mutant ninja turtles toys was a blast.  This was a chance for us to have fun with thier signiture moves and unique body styling.  We ended up with five products.  One RC item and four preschool action figures.

I worked with Mike Dore to bring this interactive Leo to life.  Playmates wanted a Radio Controlled Leonardo that could move and fight.  The first step was to look at existing products and adapt them to Leonardo.  The legs were straight forward.  Each leg was controlled by a motor.  With this understanding we could build off those two motors and animate the arms.  We then designed parts in CAD and cut parts with a CNC router.  Parts were assembled and tested.  Once all the experimenting and testing was done Leo was filmed and shown to Playmates for final approval. Our prototype was sent off and the sculptors at Playmates brought this toy to the final stages of production.

Playmates did a great job with this product and had an awesome commercial to go with it.

This is a second TMNT toy called half shell heros that I developed with Mike Dore and sold to playmates toys.  pushing down on their heads causes their arms to animate in different ways.
